BYRON -- The Byron Downtown Project's (BDP) Second Annual Golf Outing was a “hole-in-one” on all levels at Willowbrook Golf Club on Saturday, May 12. Golfers hit a few balls, enjoyed the beautiful weather on the course, and contributed to the community.
BDP volunteers checked-in 93 participants before the 9 a.m. shotgun start. Each golfer received a grab-bag, donuts and coffee. Once everything was said and done, they were off to tackle the 18-hole course.
Volunteers Jody Warner, Keely Russell and Wendy Rawles were witnesses as the golfers teed off at the third hold for a chance to win the $10,000 hole-in-one prize. But the prize money went untouched and participants moved on to other games, like the Vegas Hole on 16. Both BDP volunteers Matt Wilcox and Karl Russell were stationed there to take on any bet.
Golfers rolled off the course around 2 p.m. to enjoy a buffet dinner. A round of thanks was given to each participant, as well as to the more than 20 sponsors that helped fund each hole.
After BDP volunteers Krista Hulett and Jennifer Root put the last raffle ticket in the bucket, numbers were drawn for the 26 prizes that were donated by local business and community members. Some of the winnings ranged from a 20-inch flat screen monitor to a free 6-inch sub from Subway.
