T-Shirt Contest

Finding the award-winning design

BYRON --- Byron Elementary School Student Sophia Ruff was announced the winner of the Byron Downtown Project (BDP)/PTA T-shirt contest Monday, Dec. 11.  Ruff was given a complimentary T-shirt, $10 gift certificate to the Byron PTA Children's Only Store and her drawing printed on all the BDP Children T-shirts.

Ruff's entry was one of many received from Byron Elementary Students that were asked to draw what they felt represented Byron. The winning picture was transferred to T-shirts along with three of seven total sayings that grace the back of the shirts.

In fact, 25 students submitted drawings and 20 students submitted phrases. Every entry was excellent.

The first three places went as follows:

  • Sophia Ruff (1st)
  • Morgan Wood (2nd)
  • Alanna Sanchez (3rd)

The students were also asked to think of sayings that completed the phrase, “You know I'm from Byron because….”.4 Students, A.J. Streeter, Ashton Mitchell, Morgan Wilsdon and Ian Wilsdon, were awarded T-shirts for their phrase entries.

The winning phrases included:

  • I'm Cute.   (Ashton Mitchell)
  • I have opening day of deer hunting off school. (Ian & Morgan Wilsdon)
  • It takes longer for me to get to the parade than to watch it. (A.J. Streeter)

The shirts are available through the Byron PTA Christmas Stores, Roosters Kitch'n, New Image Salon and Back Roads Country Store.  The cost is $12 each or two for $20 and available in youth sizes S, M, L.  All proceeds go to the BDP with a donation to the Byron Elementary Art Department.
