BYRON -- The First Annual Byron Downtown Project Road Rally was held on Saturday, Oct. 2, 2006. Twenty-one teams that consisted of 107 people participated, making it a great success.
The participants received their clue packet and were dispersed from Willowbrook Golf Course at 4 p.m. Teams had to solve puzzles and riddles that lead them to 18 different locations, which included many local businesses in and around the Byron area.
Teams were taped performing silly tasks along the way, which included:
- Singing "If your happy and you know it" at the Byron United Methodist Church
- Exercising at Fit 'N Finish Gym
- Shooting "granny" shots at the Byron Park.
Teams were encouraged to wear Halloween costumes. Some fan favorites were the Pirates of the Caribbean, Ghostbusters and Telli-Tubbies.
The Road Rally took around 3 hours to complete. All teams met back at the Golf Course to enjoy a Taco and Nacho Buffet, as well as watch themselves on video.
A gift basket worth $200 of donated items was raffled off, as were other items. Prizes were awarded to the first place team, second place team, last place team, best team costume and best individual costume.
More than $1,000 was raised for The Byron Downtown Project and fun was had by all!! DVDs are available of the video footage from the Road Rally for the price of $5 per DVD.
