Update

Well hello friends. 2008 is here and the BDP is ready to dive in yet again. The "core" group recently met so we could recap last years activities and set the schedule and goals for this year. Allow me to brief you on where we stand.  Our schedule and how to get involved with upcoming events will follow soon on this website. If you  wish to be included on the BDP (Byron Downtown Project) e-mail list please e-mail staciahomebuilder@yahoo.com

A Byron Village Planning Commission was formed in 2007 and is working closely with Carlise/Wortman (planning firm hired by the village to examine Master Plan & Zoning) to make recommendations to the Byron Village Council regarding the village Master Plan and Zoning. The State of Michigan legislature requires Byron to have a Planning Commission & to review its Master Plan and Zoning a minimum of every 5 years. In the current review process the Master Plan has been drafted and has been turned into Burns Twp. and Shiawassee County for a 60 day review period. After review a public hearing will be posted and held at the Municipal Hall downtown Byron for our community to comment on. Within this plan is a time line, and on the time line is the BDP turning into a DDA. This is projected for late 2009 or early 2010. You wonder why so long? The Planning Commission has been working hard and has a lot to do on their end still with Village Council on zoning before they feel we can tackle the legal formation of a DDA. We need to be patient and follow the time line and then all committees (Planning Commission, BDP and Village Council) can come together and make the DDA come to life, so to speak. The BDP has been mentioned in the time line for help/consideration on other ideas the Planning Commission would like to implement as well as forming a DDA.  The BDP is so thrilled to be included into the master plan! Good news also, this time allows us to continue our financial goals. We need to be prepared to pay for our legal work/matching dollars (for grants down the road) when our turn comes, and that means more fund raising!

As you know the BDP is operating as a subcommittee of the Chamber of Commerce. Beverly Miller (Chamber President) is and will continue to be updated and involved with the BDP. Rest assured that all fund raising has been deposited in our non-profit account at Chase Bank. Our subcommittee acts just like any non-profit, we spend money only on what is relevant to our continued fund raising efforts. We act as volunteers only, no paid positions. We are trying our best to spend wisely as we appreciate all your (and others) contributions and thank you for your support. This is and has been a tall order but we are plugging away at it. From day one we said "Someone needs to step up, and We are the someone". We love our community and things are changing ... they really are. Get Involved and Watch Byron Bloom.

NEXT FUNDRAISER -
The  BDP and The Byron Area Chamber is hosting this event

The Owosso Poker Room (immediately needing volunteers) -
This is a new facility and is owned and operated by Byron Local, Dan Glass.
We have booked the following dates to volunteer at Poker Hall and collect a portion of the funds taken in those evenings. WE must have at least 2 people per shift the reserved days. This will be a easy fundraiser (yippee!) you can just show up at your schedule shift and leave when the next two people come in. Is this an event you can help out with?
