Book #1 of Byron Cemetery Burial Records was compiled over a period of several years starting with 1989 and completed in 1993.  Byron Cemetery made its first burial in March 1837 with the death of Theodore Prevost who lived in the village of Byron.  The second burial was Sally Anna Crawford who lived in the Township of Burns and died in May 1837.  No records existed before 1900.  When the Byron Cemetery Association was formed in 1898, in an effort to fund the care of the cemetery, Noah Joslin and Daniel Benton drafted the 1900 book.  Even then, some burials were unknown and until this time, a complete account was never done.  The Village of Byron assumed ownership of the cemetery in 1946 and another effort was made to catalog the grounds.  Merle Perry Jr. cataloged the markers in 1960 and Lyle and Delloise Buchanan did it again in 1980.  The following records were used in an effort to locate and document deaths and burials as accurately as possible: Byron and Burns Township death records, transit permits, burial permits, the old record books, the Perry and Buchanan records, Small Funeral Home burial records, obituaries from the scrapbooks of Julia Barnes and Edna Brown and various family genealogies.

Book #2 has also been completed at this time.  Sharon Granger, 117 N. Ann St., PO Box 223 Byron, MI 48418 compiled these record books.  She has many records and information of old Byron area families.
