BYRON SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

The Byron School Alumni Association was organized on March 22, 1919. Seventeen graduates and Professor D.J. Crawford were responsible for its formation. The first officers elected for the year 1919 were: President, B.J. Kanouse; Vice President, Geroge Stuible; Secretary, Juanita Moore; and Treasurer, Eleanor Harrington. Voted dues for the year were $.50.

Two hundred cards were sent out to announce the first alumni banquet to be held June 20, 1919. The meal was prepared by the ladies of the Order of Eastern Stars and served in the Masonic Hall. The orchestra cost $25.00 and the meal for the 1920 banquet was a sum total of $17.25 paid to the ladies of the Methodist Church who put on the meal for that year.

The banquets have been held annually except for the war years of 1943 and 1944. For many years the Byron School P.T.A. cooked the meal and it was traditional that the high school Junior Class serve it. In 1967 the banquet date was moved to the month of October to coincide with Homecoming.
