Welch They lived in the
little stucco house that stood east of the old high school which was
moved when the gym was built. Ed was the son of Benjamin and Lovina Toby
Welch and was born in 1844. He married Martha Banner and had 2 sons –
Frank B and Clarence. Other children of Benjamin and Lovina with Elijah
B. who became a prominent grocery man in Byron, Frank E. who was elected
the county clerk in 1880 and was re-elected three times and a beloved
citizen of Corunna, Dennis C. who served in Co. D 6th Michigan Cavalry,
under Captain David Royce and Charles E. who died at the age of 3 years.
Dennis was severely wounded with a minnie ball in the hip at the Battle
of Falling Waters and died at the age of 31 years. Benjamin came into
Michigan in 1826, took up land from the government in 1836 and moved to
Burns Township on his farm in 1838. |
