George, Clifton and DeLoss Eddy

Eddy

George was the son of Jonathan Eddy. He was born in 1838 and married Euretta Chaffee, daughter of William and Harriett. The Eddy farm was located on the north side of Beard Road just west of the Ann Arbor railroad tracks and was taken up from the government by Jonathan. George and “Retta’s” son DeLoss and his sister Hattie were born there. DeLoss married Daisy Goff and had a son Clifton and Hattie married Daisy’s brother, Howard Goff. George and Retta also had a little girl named Cora Belle who died when she was 15 months old.

Johnathan and Martha Crandall Eddy had four children: George H., Harriett L., Adelbert F. and Martha. Oscar was the son of Adelbert “Dell” and Katherine Euler. He married Della Sciler who was the daughter of Jacob and Hannah Thumser Sciler. Oscar and Della moved into town when George was 9 years old. George helped his folks in the meat and grocery business. After the fire that burned most of the buildings on the east side of Saginaw Street in 1919, he and his father made every cement block with the help of Mr. Lott, that went into the new building at 109 S. Saginaw Street and that building is still standing today and is an insurance office. George and his wife Elsie Macomb Eddy retired from the meat and grocery business in 1964. George and Elsie were local historians and took many pictures in and around Byron. He died in 1995
