BYRON -- A yearly tradition of celebration and remembrance will be taking place when the village of Byron holds its annual Memorial Day ceremonies.
VFW Rauch-Tower Post No. 5822 is organizing the event and would like to invite everyone to join them at 1 p.m. Monday, May 26 to observe the annual parade and Memorial Day remembrance services. The group says it would like to make this year a special year because of the ongoing events in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Those who want to be a part of the parade should line up on Ann Street by Byron Elementary School at 12:30 a.m. The VFW Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a bicycle decorating contest shortly beforehand.
The procession is expected to go down Ann Street, come down Saginaw Street, and end at the Byron Municipal Building, where there will be a short remembrance ceremony. The Byron Masonic Lodge will also honor their pick for citizen of the year during this stop.
Events will come to a close when the VFW heads to Byron Cemetery to honor all the fallen members of the Byron community.
Parking is available downtown and at Byron High School during the event. Traffic will be halted on Saginaw Street during the parade and remembrance services.
