BYRON -- Are you looking for a place to keep your tools? Maybe a place to park the lawn mower?
Rauch-Tower VFW Post 5822 may have the answer you're looking for with its annual shed raffle. At noon on Labor Day, Sept. 3, one grand prize winner will have the opportunity to win a 8'x8'x12' Wooden Yard Storage Building.
Built with quality materials and the skills of a building trades class at Byron High School, the craftsmanship of this structure is enough to impress anyone. A double-door sports one side of the shed while a single door and sliding window are on another side.
The shed is left in its natural wood state so the person who wins this raffle can customize it to their own tastes. And this sturdy structure won't blow away, it's built with 2x4 framing, an OSB interior and T1-11exterior. The shed complies with all building codes too.
"One of the first things people say about the shed is that it's so big," says Don Thompson, Rauch-Tower VFW Post 5822 Quartermaster. "Then they ask in a joking way whether we'll deliver it. We'll deliver it within reason -- usually within a 50 mile radius."
Profits from this raffle are directed to a fund that is geared toward the eventual purchase of a building for the local VFW post.
"This has been a dream of ours for 15 years," Thompson says about the VFW having its own building. "We kind of view this building as being a community center. Any other community organization will be welcome to use it too."
The cost to enter this raffle is $2 per ticket or $5 for three tickets. If not enough tickets are sold, a minimum prize of $200 will be awarded. The drawing takes place noon-1 p.m. Labor Day, Sept. 3. You don't have to be present the day the tickets are drawn to win.
